The White Girl - Book Review

I just finished listening to this book by best-selling author and award-winning indigenous storyteller Tony Birch, on Audible. It tells the story of grandmother Odette Brown who was left to raise her granddaughter Cecelia (Sissy) after her daughter leaves her behind. Odette struggles to keep Sissy safe from law enforcement, especially since she is light skinned Aboriginal child, and susceptible to the threat of being removed from her family.

The characters in the book are interesting and warm and the narration done by Shareena Clanton is lovely, she has such a sweet voice which is very easy to listen to and really captures the spirit of Odette.  Shareena is currently appearing on Neighbours where they are speaking in language which I love hearing.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Australian history or just good stories. It is not a heavy book, it has a simple but important theme. Loved it.

I have become a real fan of Audible in the last few months as well, as my time driving to and from work is now filled with great books.
