Books I own - Family related
The following books are ones that relate to my family specifically so they are likely only to be of interest to family members.
John Small is a First Fleet Convict on my Mum's side. See my convict post. This book was one that I bought very early on in my family history studies.
This book on "The Search for John Small First Fleeter" written by Mollie Gillen in 1985, records the search for the ancestry of our First Fleeter. It covers extensive research into all the different John Smalls discounting each one. https://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/1792467
“The Small Family in Australia 1788-1988” by the John and Mary Small Descendants Association. Editor William John Pollock.
This book aims to record all descendants of John Small and Mary Parker up to the bicentennial year. It has biographies of the first two generations and then names and dates of the descendants. This book has since been updated in an electronic version on USB.

“...Not Without Comforts and Hopes” by Judith MacLeod
This book covers the lives of several of my convict ancestors who were all associated with one another.
This includes James Weavers, Robert Weekes, Mary and Ann Hutchinson, Richard Porter, Sarah Weavers.
It includes details and maps of their grants, family charts, and biographies.
This was a self-published family history and unfortunately the writer has since passed away, I believe in 2018. This is one Of my most treasured items, Judith did such a great job.

This book “See How They Ring: Travelling Bellringers on the Australasian Popular Stage” by Gwyn Gillard, was a wonderful find. It relates to my 2xgt-grandmother Julia Barber and the life that she made with the Faust Family of Acrobats and London Bellringers. The book contains a photo of Julia with the family and that image is another one for my collection.
The book is very well researched and contains stories not only of the Faust’s but a large selection of other bell ringing troupes.
Gwyn has also been very generous with her time in helping me research members of the Faust family. See the link for a list of troupes included in the book.
Coincidentally my niece has also taken up Bellringering.
